About Us
Your Partner in Local Business Since 1990

In the heart of Mid-Michigan, where hard work runs as deep as the Saginaw River, our story begins with Tom McDonald Sr.—a 6'3" force of nature with a charismatic smile and a gift for stories that left you laughing. Tom wasn't just a businessman; he was a patriot and advocate for the everyday folks who built this town.

It was 1990, ten years into owning the McDonald GMC Cadillac Pontiac dealership on State Street, when Tom heard the real struggles of his customers: factory workers and single parents pleading for evening and weekend hours. "Life doesn't clock out at 5," they'd say. It tugged at his heart. So, he extended those hours and hung American flags across the lot—a quiet salute to the community and the country they loved.

Not everyone agreed. Protests erupted, demanding the flags come down and a return to the 9-to-5 norm. It stung, but Tom, with his easy laugh and unyielding resolve, wouldn't yield. He took his case to local government, speaking from the soul of a man who knew his neighbors' grit. They listened, but change was slow.
From that fire of frustration and optimism, an idea sparked: an association to champion the "working man" and hardworking business owners of Saginaw Township. Thus, the STBA was born, anchored in our credo: Helping local businesses is our first priority.

That was 35 years ago, and the "why" that keeps us alive? It's the people—the late-night luncheons sparking partnerships, the triumphs over red tape that bind us, the pride in lifting the underdog next door. Tom's spirit endures in every shared story and extended hand, proving we're more than business: we're humanity in action. The heartbeat of Saginaw Township pulses through us, lifting us all. Join the warmth.
